How to Make Pressed Flower Candles

Pressed flower candles are a beautiful way to add elegance using natural materials. Pressed flowers, leaves, and greenery are applied with wax to create delicate designs that are unique and beautiful.

Materials

taper or pillar candles

pressed flowers, leaves, and greenery

tea light candles

scissors

paper towels or wipes newspaper

matches or a lighter

paintbrush

Directions

1. Prepare Your Work Area: Lay down newspaper, paper towels, or a protective sheet to catch any wax spills.

2. Remove packaging and stickers: Remove any packaging and stickers from your candles. If using taper candles that are attached at the wick, use the scissors to cut the wicks and separate the candles. Make sure candles are clear of any residue by wiping clean with paper towels or wipes then wipe dry. Be careful not to wipe too hard as to not nick or damage the candles or wax surface.

3. Light the tea light candle: Using the matches or a lighter, light the tea light candle. Let burn for a few minutes to allow the wax to melt through at the top.

4. Plan your design: pick the flowers or greenery you will be using to apply to your candle surface. you can hold the flowers to your candle and decide how you’d like to line them up. Keep in mind that you can do this in layers and have flowers and greenery overlap.

5. Apply the pressed flowers: Leaving 1-2 inches from the top of the candle, paint the wax on the pressed flower to make it stick to the candle surface. Be sure to work fast as the wax dries fast and needs to be applied in thin layers. You will need to apply multiple layers over the entire flower to ensure it sticks. When applying multiple flowers, work with one flower at a time. You may need to light an additional candle if you are applying multiple flowers.

6. Dry your candle: Even though the wax dries fairly quickly, it’s best to let your candle sit for about 30 minutes. This will allow any excess wax to be fully dried before use. If using taper candles, allow to sit in candle holders while they dry.

7. Enjoy: Once dried, place your candles on display or package up to give as gifts to friends and family.
